So what is cycling? :)

You have to understand what cycling is all about in order to get a feeling for my cycling love. :D

"Cycling, also called bicycling or biking, is the use of bicycles for transport, recreation, or for sport. Persons engaged in cycling are cyclists or bicyclists. Apart from ordinary two-wheeled bicycles, cycling also includes riding unicycles, tricycles, quadracycles, and other similar human-powered vehicles (HPVs).

Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number about one billion worldwide. They are the principal means of transportation in many regions.

Cycling is a very efficient and effective mode of transportation optimal for short to moderate distances. Bicycles provide numerous benefits compared to motor vehicles, including exercise, an alternative to the use of fossil fuels, no air or noise pollution, much reduced traffic congestion, easier parking, greater maneuverability, and access to both roads and paths. The advantages are at less financial cost to the user as well as society (negligible damage to roads, and less pavement required). Criticisms and disadvantages of cycling include reduced protection in crashes, particularly with motor vehicles, longer travel time (except in densely populated areas), vulnerability to weather conditions, difficulty in transporting passengers, and the skill and fitness required." Route for the Giro D'Italia 2013 has been presented

With 6 mountain finishes and 2 time trials, the 2013 Giro D'Italia will be very interesting, especially for riders like Bradley Wiggins. The Giro will start in Napoli and end in Brescia.

End of the saison

After the tour of lombardia, the 2012 cycling saison is almost over. Only Paris-Tour is about to begin on October 7th. Here are the standings in the UCI world tour ranking:

Should the Giro be continued? (May 2010)

Yesterday was a black day for the world of cycling. The belgian cyclist Wouter Weylandt died on the 3rd stage. The question that occurs now is: Can the Giro be continued? After a tragedy like that the sport gets secondary. It isn't sure if Team Leopard Trek will continue the race. This years Giro just won't be the same. My deepest sympathy to the wife and the family of Wouter Weylandt.
